Adventures On the Road

By the time we left, our cats were reacting to my stress. Tubby and Tink were hissing at each other. Talulah was keeping out of the fray. Which raised my anxiety another notch or ten. Out the door we went, and headed to Brattleboro to get a full charge. They have upgraded that charge station to super duper 250KW status. Our Model 3 had to turn on its fan, it was so vroom vroom. And off we went to Buffalo.

Twenty minutes into that 6-ish hour drive, with rain and trucks to keep us company, we got a text from Amtrak saying the train was disrupted. Wha-! And then it was canceled. We parked in a parking lot to debate what to do.

Onward! Because the car had to be in Buffalo at the end of our trip and the trip would proceed, though I hinted that we could just go home….

For some reason, the brake on the passenger side didn’t work, no matter how hard I pushed down on it. And the rain fell. The trucks passed and swayed. The poverty revealed itself of the populations of rural Vermont and New York. Long story short, we made it to Buffalo, managed to rent a car, even though it was within 24 hours and our credit card was showing up as a debit, and then to a hotel. A cat nap and then onward to Chicago, and the South West Chief train. Besides the panoramic views, we had the excitement of making espresso drinks on the train.

Follow our progress at tory.travelmap.net. I’m still trying to figure it out, myself, but there are photos and notes. I hope you’ll check it out. When we get home—I hope safe and snug on November 8th, and not with a blizzard to accompany us—I will settle into my office and process all this. But for now? TOOOOOOOT TOOOOOOT.

We drive to Portland with cousins in time to jump on the train to Seattle and then tomorrow onward to Vancouver B.C. And the Canadian Rail.
